The U.S. Army selected Red Cat Holdings Inc.’s next-generation Teal small unmanned aircraft system (UAS) for production under the branch’s Short Range Reconnaissance program.
The decision followed evaluation and testing conducted by the Army’s Uncrewed Aircraft System’s (UAS) Office, Test and Evaluation Command, Maneuver Battle Lab, and Operational Test Center.
Red Cat announced plans to increase production of the Teal system to meet the Army’s acquisition goal of 5,880 systems. However, the Army could adjust this figure during the five-year performance period.
The drone technology company also anticipates increased demand across the rest of the U.S. Department of Defense, federal agencies, and allied nations to support warfighters and operators globally.
Red Cat’s Teal drones offer a portable solution for rapid deployment in various terrains, providing real-time data and enhanced operational awareness. The company also designed the aircraft for field recoverability and repairability to ensure minimal downtime and mission continuity.
The Short Range Reconnaissance contract follows a series of developments for Red Cat, including an acquisition of FlightWave Aerospace and the announcement of ARACHNID, a family of ISR and precision strike drones. The company also recently created the Red Cat Futures Initiative, which aims to improve support for warfighters through interoperability and open architecture.
