The Kollmorgen S406AM-CA is a highly efficient, space-saving digital servo amplifier belonging to the legacy SERVOSTAR 400 (S400) product family.

This module is engineered specifically as a Master Axis drive (indicated by the "M" suffix), featuring an integrated power supply and regeneration circuit capable of driving its own brushless synchronous servomotor while distributing power to up to seven connected extension axes.

Operating within a rated supply voltage range of 230V to 400V AC, the S406AM-CA delivers a 6A RMS continuous output current and a rated installed power of up to 7 kVA for S1 continuous duty.

Housed in an ultra-compact 70mm wide enclosure, it maximizes power density within standard 300mm switchgear control cabinets.

The drive features integrated complete digital control loops—including digital current, programmable speed, and position controllers—along with built-in encoder emulation and an onboard CANopen fieldbus interface for seamless high-speed system integration.

Installation and Maintenance

Installation Best Practices

Forced Ventilation Required: To achieve its full 6A rated output power under peak ambient conditions, the S406AM-CA requires an electrical add-on fan. Ensure the fan shroud is clean and unblocked.

Mounting Clearance: Must be mounted vertically. Ensure significant open clearance space directly below and above the amplifier to guarantee uninhibited convection airflow.

Enclosure Protection: The drive has an IP20 rating. It must be installed inside a clean, dry, closed control cabinet meeting at least the IP54 protection class to limit ambient operational temperature below 45°C.

Earthing Safety: To eliminate shock hazards and electronic noise, the drive frame must be securely earthed directly to the central protective earth (PE) busbar using a low-resistance connection.
