The Woodward 8200-1200 is a high-density, distributed I/O module from the LinkNet-HT™ series.

Unlike the 505 or Peak150 series which are standalone turbine controllers, the 8200-1200 is an expansion module designed to provide temperature monitoring capabilities for complex control systems like the MicroNet™ or Peak200.

It specializes in resistance temperature detector (RTD) inputs, allowing the main controller to monitor bearing temperatures, winding temperatures, or process steam heat with high precision.

Application Cases

Bearing Temperature Monitoring: Continuous tracking of turbine and generator bearing temperatures to prevent catastrophic mechanical failure.

Generator Stator Protection: Monitoring the temperature of the internal windings in synchronous generators.

Heat Exchanger Efficiency: Measuring inlet and outlet steam/water temperatures to calculate thermal efficiency.

Lube Oil Systems: Ensuring that the turbine's oil remains within the specified viscosity range by monitoring the reservoir and supply lines.

Installation and Maintenance

Wiring: Use 3-wire RTDs to ensure lead-wire resistance compensation. Shielded cabling is mandatory for environments with high electromagnetic interference (EMI).

Network Termination: Since it uses CAN communication, ensure the LinkNet-HT network is properly terminated with a 120 $Omega$ resistor at both ends of the trunk line.

Power: Ensure the 24V DC power supply is stable; a power-cycle on the module will temporarily drop all 8 temperature readings to the master controller.

Address Setting: Each 8200-1200 on a single CAN bus must have a unique node address, typically set via rotary switches or software configuration.
