General Description of Saitel DP

The Saitel DP platform is a complete set of devices provided by Schneider Electric for real-time

control applications and power line automation. It is a high-technology platform which gives a

solution to the business areas of Schneider Electric.

The following figures show a Saitel DP in chassis (left) and in backplane (right).

Saitel DP’s design has been optimized to meet the most demanding requirements of multiple

sectors:

• Cost-efficiency, minimum downtime, and compliance with electrical safety, electromagnetic

compatibility and environmental standards.

• Safety and reliability requirements for power, gas, water, residual water supply, etc.

• Centralized monitoring and control of geographically distributed systems which support

hierarchical data acquisition and redundant networks.

• Local monitoring and control with data sharing capabilities of plant-distributed devices.

• Quick troubleshooting by means of programmable automation execution.

• One of the most remarkable features of Saitel DP is its modular design. All I/O, CPU, power

supply and communication modules have an identical format, sharing the same enclosure.

1.2.1

Interfaces & Functions

Depending on the devices connected to the output signals, dangerous voltage could be present.

DANGER

The module SM_DO32R could present hazard of electric chock, electric arc or burns. For

any of these cases, follow these instructions:

• Only qualified operator should install this equipment. Such work should be performed only

after reading this entire set of instructions and checking the technical characteristics of the

device.

• NEVER work alone.

• Turn off all power supplying this equipment before working on or inside it. Consider all

sources of power, including the possibility of back feeding.

• Screw tight all terminals, even those not in use.

Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury.

Internally, the module is electrically connected to the backplane using a 48-pin connector on the

rear side. In relation to the field connection (external devices), two connectors are located on the

front side.

• Always use a properly rated voltage sensing device to confirm that all power is off.

• Start by connecting the device to the protective ground and to the functional ground.

According the SM_DO16R P/N, following ordering options are available for field connection:

• Option A1  P/N: M5861x000y-ZZ: Terminal connection.

• Option B2  P/N: M586x2000y-ZZ: Digital outputs polarized with 24 VDC.

• Option B3  P/N: M586x3000y-ZZ: Digital outputs polarized with 48 VDC.

NOTICE

Flat ribbon connection A2 is not available for this module.

The SM_DO16R module includes:

• 16 independent free-contact digital outputs (DO) in two independent blocks. Each DO can be

configured as:

o Single: pulsed (fixed time) or preset (latched).

o Double: pulsed or preset.

All DO are SPST (Single Pole Single Throw) or NO (Normally open).

• External polarization of DO for each block. According to the P/N, DO signals will be polarized

using 24 VDC or 48 VDC.

• Polarization level is monitored for each block.

• An advanced command safety mechanism is used to control field operation.

• Autocheck of DOs every time that the polarization is reset.

• Control by external watchdog for unsafe situations. The module goes to a safe mode

(commands are blocked) if certain conditions are not met.

• Address and communication rate in the bus are setting using microswitches located on the rear

side.

• 20 LED indicators giving information about the status of the module and each DO.

• The software in the module can be upgrade remotely, from the CPU.

• Isolation of 2.2 kV between field connectors and the controller block.

This module implements hot-swapping function, that is, it can removed and installed on the

backplane while the RTU is working without affecting the proper functioning of the system.
