HIRSCHMANN MM20-M4T1M2T1SAHH Media Module
HIRSCHMANN MM20-M4T1M2T1SAHH Media Module
The HIRSCHMANN MM20-M4T1M2T1SAHH is a highly versatile, multi-interface 4-port Fast Ethernet expansion card designed for Hirschmann’s MICE (Modular Industrial Communication Equipment) switch series, specifically fitting MS20 and MS30 modular base units.
Featuring a unique combination of 1 ST fiber port, 1 SC fiber port, and 2 copper RJ45 ports, this multi-media module serves as a universal interface bridge for heterogeneous industrial networks that require interconnecting different fiber optic connector styles alongside local copper devices.
Product Introduction / Overview
The MM20-M4T1M2T1SAHH plugs directly into the backplane slots of MS20 or MS30 modular switches. Its triple-interface configuration eliminates the need for external media converters or adapter cables when bridging legacy ST (BFOC) twist-lock fiber runs with modern SC duplex optical backbones, while simultaneously providing two copper RJ45 ports for local field instrumentation.

Product Features / Core Advantages
Cross-Connector Fiber Bridge: Combines both ST (BFOC) and SC fiber connector types on a single expansion card, allowing direct coupling between legacy bayonet fiber runs and standard SC optical links without extra patch panels.
Balanced Hybrid Density: Integrates 2 optical links and 2 copper RJ45 ports into a single slot, maximizing slot efficiency in space-constrained control cabinets.
Complete EMI/RFI Immunity: Optical fiber connections provide full galvanic isolation, preventing ground potential loops and electromagnetic noise corruption.
Hot-Swappable Backplane Integration: Can be added, removed, or replaced in live MS20/MS30 base units without causing downtime for adjacent running modules.

Environmental Tolerance Conditions
Operating Temperature Range: $0^circtext{C}$ to $+60^circtext{C}$ ($32^circtext{F}$ to $140^circtext{F}$)
Storage / Transport Temperature: $-40^circtext{C}$ to $+85^circtext{C}$ ($-40^circtext{F}$ to $185^circtext{F}$)
Relative Humidity: 10% to 95% (non-condensing)
Standards Compliance: cUL508. cUL1604. CE Mark, FCC Part 15 Class A
Installation Method
ESD Safety: Wear a grounded electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap prior to handling the module electronics.
Chassis Alignment: Locate an open expansion slot on the host MS20 or MS30 basic unit. Align the side guides of the MM20 module with the guide rails inside the switch chassis.
Module Insertion: Push the module steadily into the slot until its rear connector seats completely into the backplane board.
Mechanical Fastening: Tighten the captive thumb screws on the top and bottom of the faceplate to secure the module against shock and vibration.
Cabling Connection:
Plug Cat5e/6 industrial cables into the RJ45 copper ports (Ports 2 and 4).
For Port 1 (ST), align the bayonet pin, push, and twist clockwise to lock.
For Port 3 (SC), push the duplex SC connector straight in until it clicks. Ensure Tx on one end connects to Rx on the remote node.
Operating Instructions
LED Status Verification: Check the front-panel status LEDs after powering on. Solid green indicates an active physical link, while flashing green/amber indicates active packet transmission.
Dust Protection: Always keep protective rubber caps fitted on any unused ST or SC fiber ports to prevent ambient dust from contaminating internal laser lenses.
Hot-Swapping Routine: To replace a live module, disconnect all fiber and copper cables, loosen the top and bottom thumb screws, and gently pull the module straight out from the chassis slot.
