GE P106-6052 AMC2 Advanced Micro Controller Unit
GE P106-6052 AMC2 Advanced Micro Controller Unit
Unique Product Description
The GE Power Conversion P106-6052 AMC2 (Advanced Micro Controller 2) is a industrial-grade embedded control processor designed by GE Power Conversion (Converteam).
Built specifically for demanding applications—including marine dynamic positioning (DP), high-availability drives, offshore vessel control, and distributed control systems (DCS)—the P106-6052 acts as a central processing core.
Equipped with an onboard x86-class processor running Windows Embedded / Windows XP, this unit combines programmable control logic with direct host communication.
Featuring five high-speed integrated network interfaces, broad serial communication capability, and modular extension slots (PMC/PC104+), the unit delivers ruggedized processing across high-vibration and extreme-temperature environments.
Product Advantages & Features
High Network Integration: Includes 5 integrated Ethernet communication ports for independent networking, redundant host links, and fieldbus protocol routing.
Industrial Fanless Design: Rated for passive cooling operations up to 70 °C, avoiding mechanical fan failure points in enclosed industrial panels.
Vibration & Shock Resistance: Tested to 15 g shock ratings (IEC 1131-2), making it suitable for marine vessels, propulsion systems, and heavy-duty industrial automation.
Modular Fieldbus Expansion: Features 4 internal PMC/PC104+ expansion slots supporting Profibus, FIP, optical fiber Ethernet, and serial communications.
Flexible Serial Connectivity: Includes 4 × RS-232 onboard interfaces alongside support for high-density Serial16+ expansion boards.
Reliable Power Management: Powered by an industrial 24 V DC (±20%) low-draw supply (~0.9 A nominal consumption).
Solid-State Reliability: Uses CompactFlash storage (256 MB onboard DRAM / 256 MB Flash base) to prevent drive failure under constant mechanical shock.

Installation and Maintenance
1. Mechanical & Mounting Guidelines
Dimensions: 234 mm × 206 mm × 120 mm (W × H × D).
Mounting: Flange-mount panel assembly. Install on a flat metal plate inside an enclosure with IP54 rating or better.
Thermal Clearance: Maintain at least 50 mm of unobstructed space on top and bottom of the unit to ensure natural convection cooling (fanless design up to 70 °C).
2. Electrical Wiring & Power
Connect a regulated 24 V DC (±20%) power source to the primary power terminal strip.
Ensure functional protective grounding (PE) is attached to avoid ground loops and noise interference on serial lines.
3. Preventive Maintenance & Hot-Swapping
CompactFlash Access: Maintain clear access to the CompactFlash card slot for system image backup and firmware updates.
Field Replacement Procedure:
Power down the system completely before inserting/removing fieldbus module cards or the CompactFlash card.
Verify that the hardware identity dongle/configuration key is transferred from the old controller to the replacement unit.
Ensure serial line terminations (RS-232/RS-485) match system drawings prior to rebooting.
