Hirschmann RS20-0400M2M2SDAEHC07.1.05 OpenRail Switch
Hirschmann RS20-0400M2M2SDAEHC07.1.05 OpenRail Switch
The Hirschmann RS20-0400M2M2SDAEHC07.1.05 (Belden Part Number: 943 434-001) is a highly compact, 4-port managed Fast Ethernet switch engineered for localized control systems and machine-level network integration
Unique Product Description
In industrial automation, localized cabinets often require high-performance network management but lack the space for high-port-count switches. The RS20-0400M2M2SDAEHC07.1.05 delivers full managed capability within an ultra-slim 47 mm housing.
Equipped with 2 Fast Ethernet RJ45 copper ports for localized PLC or HMI connections and 2 Multi-Mode SC fiber-optic ports for redundant ring topologies, this unit bridges the gap between localized machine panels and primary fiber backbones up to 5 km away. Running Classic Software v07.1.05. it provides reliable multicast filtering, VLAN segmentation, and rapid redundancy, ensuring critical control traffic is processed with zero packet drops.

Product Advantages and Features
Space-Saving Footprint: At just 47 mm wide, it fits easily into small distribution boxes and distributed junction cabinets.
Rapid Network Recovery: Supports HIPER-Ring and MRP (Media Redundancy Protocol) for network healing times under 20 ms in the event of a fiber or copper link break.
Enhanced Industrial Security: Includes MAC-based port locking, IEEE 802.1X access authorization, and multi-privilege administration passwords to prevent unauthorized field access.
Industrial Dual-Redundant Power: Operates on dual power feeds ranging from 9.6 V DC to 60 V DC or 24 V AC, guaranteeing continuous uptime even during a localized power line failure.
Comprehensive Monitoring: Equipped with an integrated diagnostic signal contact (dry relay) to alert your master PLC instantly if a link fails or a power feed drops.

Application Cases
1. Redundant Machine-Level Rings in Manufacturing
In automotive assembly lines, individual robot cells require high-speed communication while maintaining isolation from adjacent cells. By loop-chaining switches using the 2 multi-mode fiber ports, a resilient physical ring is established across the factory floor. Local cell controllers connect to the 2 copper ports. If a main fiber trunk is severed by moving machinery, the switch switches traffic paths in under 20 ms, keeping the line moving.
2. Wind Turbine Tower Data Aggregation
Wind turbine nacelles generate highly susceptible sensor data that must travel down the tower through high-EMI environments. The RS20-0400M2M2 is placed in the turbine head to convert generator monitoring data into noise-immune optical signals, transmitting it safely via the 2 multi-mode fiber ports to the base grid-tie station.
Installation and Maintenance

---|--- <-- Metal spring clip snaps secure
DIN-Rail Mounting: Hook the upper slot of the metal DIN-rail attachment on the back of the switch onto the top edge of a standard 35mm DIN rail. Push the lower front part of the switch firmly toward the rail until the bottom spring-loaded clip snaps closed.
PE Grounding: Connect the functional grounding screw at the bottom-front corner of the switch housing to your central cabinet earth terminal using a heavy-gauge wire to protect against surge transients.
Configuration & Swap Recovery (ACA21): Keep a Hirschmann ACA21 USB Adapter plugged into the front USB port. In the event of a hardware swap, simply move the ACA21 to the replacement switch; it will read the configuration on boot and go live automatically.
