SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Nov. 4, 2024 - During PACK EXPO 2024, KUKA Robotics showed the speed and precision of an automated bottle capping solution that uses two KR 6 R500 Z200-2 SCARA robots. The cell, designed by System Partner DGT Solutions, Inc., highlighted how KUKA automation provides for increased production and profitability with the ability to process a wide variety of caps and container heights.
The high-performance, ultra-compact KR 6 R500 Z200-2 SCARA capped small spray bottles with a cycle time of less than 0.36 seconds. With a maximum payload of 6 kg and a 500 mm reach, the four-axis KR 6 R500 Z200-2 has a serial mechanism with rotational joints in the first two axes, and the remaining axes are combined to allow rotation and linear movement in the Z-axis. The KR SCARA industrial robots come in a variety of payloads, reaches and Z-axis strokes and are also available in an HO variant for safe food and beverage applications.
The robot was controlled by KUKA’s KR C5 micro small robot controller that seamlessly integrates into operational technology (OT), information technology (IT) and cloud environments. It is also the company’s first controller to run both KUKA.SystemSoftware (KSS) and the iiQKA.OS next generation operating system.
DGT Solutions configured the bottle capping cell using the intuitive KUKA.WorkVisual engineering suite that provides offline development, online diagnosis and maintenance capabilities for every step of commissioning. Program code is checked for logic in the background, catching errors early and enabling more efficient project implementation.
