Industrial technology giant Siemens plans to acquire a leading developer of industrial software, Altair Engineering, in a deal worth approximately $10 billion, company officials announced.
Siemens said that the addition of Altair Engineering would bolster its manufacturing technology offering, particularly in artificial intelligence. Altair also offers data science, simulation, and high-performance computing capabilities.
The German industrial conglomerate said bringing Altair’s operations to its Xcelerator digital platform would create the most complete AI-powered simulation and design portfolio to date.
The resulting system, officials added, would combine the digital and physical worlds of Siemens’ customers to help meet their technology and sustainability goals.
The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2025, pending regulatory approval and other closing conditions. Siemens officials said the company expects the deal to result in “significant” synergies in both its costs and revenues.
Altair, founded in Detroit nearly 40 years ago, is now based in suburban Troy, Michigan, and went public in 2017. The company has a workforce of more than 3,500 — some 1,400 of whom work in research and development capacities.
In addition to manufacturers across the globe, the company also serves customers in the energy, life sciences, and financial services sectors.
