Installation Method

Safety Precaution: Always wear an Anti-Static Discharge (ESD) wrist strap grounded to the rack frame before handling the cPCI board to prevent component damage.

Power Verification: Ensure the target CompactPCI chassis power supply is operational and configured to output correct voltages on the backplane.

Guide Rail Alignment: Align the top and bottom edges of the cPCI-HR6847E/M2G-1 board with the guide rails of the designated 6U slot in the subrack.

Insertion: Slide the board smoothly into the chassis slot until the rear J1/J2 multi-pin connectors make contact with the backplane.

Locking Handle Engagement: Press down on the front injector/ejector handles simultaneously to firmly seat the board connectors into the backplane receptacle.

Secure Fastening: Tighten the front panel captive screws (top and bottom) using a Phillips screwdriver to secure the card against vibration.

Cable Connection: Attach required peripheral interface cables (Ethernet, VGA, Serial, USB) to the front panel or RTM.

Operating Instructions

Initial Boot Sequence

Ensure all front panel connections and optional Rear Transition Modules (RTM) are secure.

Apply power to the CompactPCI rack chassis.

Observe the front panel LED indicators:

PWR (Power): Solid Green indicates proper power distribution from the backplane.

SYS / RUN: Blinking/Solid Green indicates POST completion and BIOS/OS loading.

HDD/STAT: Flashes during onboard storage access.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

Cold Reboot: If the board freezes, press the recessed RST (Reset) button on the front panel to trigger a system reset without power cycling the entire rack.

Hot Swap Removal: Pull the injector/ejector handle microswitch lever to signal the OS to unmount devices before pulling the board out of a live backplane.

Firmware & Diagnostics: Access the system BIOS by connecting a console terminal via the COM1 serial port or a USB keyboard + VGA display during bootup.
