On November 14, 2024, Nestlé USA announced its plans to invest $150 million to expand its production facility in Cherokee County, South Carolina.
The giant multinational food and beverage corporation opened its Cherokee County facility in Gaffney, which is located in the northern part of South Caroline, in 1980.
The $150 million will go towards upgrading the facility with newer technology and automation, as well as adding a new production line for frozen meals.
Nicole Caldwell, the Gaffney factory manager, stated that the investment will support Nestlé’s goal of enhancing and updating its operations and in-house capabilities.
Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, Harvey S. Peeler Jr., thanked Nestlé for the new investment and the company’s 40-year positive impact on both the county and state.
South Carolina’s governor, Henry McMaster, praised the company’s decision to expand the Gaffney site, stating that it will help strengthen local communities.
Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III called it a “major victory” for the area, while Hugh Weathers, the Commissioner of Agriculture, commended Nestlé for its contribution to the local economy, and job creation efforts.
As the largest food company in the world, Nestlé has over 340 factories in 77 countries, with 275,000 employees.
In the U.S., Nestlé USA operates around 96 production facilities in 31 states, with 33,000 members of staff. At Nestlé North America, there are another 3,700 workers in nine locations across Canada.
