Rivian announced the return of its software that celebrates the Halloween season. This year, the electric vehicle maker introduced “Car Costumes,” inspired by vehicles from pop culture and the entertainment industry.
Once activated, a parked vehicle can use design, sound, and lighting to reference the Knight Rider television series, Back to the Future films, and a “Haunted Rivian” option.
The automaker explained that users can activate the Knight Rider Car Costume through its mobile app by selecting the “Gear Guard” dressed as the fictional character Michael Knight.
This will trigger the interior display system to showcase diagnostics from K.I.T.T., a fictional AI computer in the show’s vehicle and play the show’s theme music. Additionally, Gen 2 owners can experience a red beam from the exterior lightbar and a scanner sound effect.
To activate the Back to the Future costume, users can select the Doc Brown character Gear Guard, which will prompt the movie’s interface, music, and an acceleration sound effect. Gen 2 owners can also press the “88mph” button to generate sound effects and themed lighting in the vehicle’s front and rear.
The final Gear Guard, dressed as a scarecrow, will activate the “Haunted Rivian” Car Costume. The mode features eight sound effects, three color themes, and ghosts and static on the interior display screen.
The themed accessories are available until Nov. 4.
