Ndrive CP Hardware Manual
Aerotech’s Ndrive CP (Compact PWM)network digital driveis ahighperformanceamplifier. Thedrive
provides deterministic behavior, auto-identification, and easy software setup. The Ndrive CP’s high
performancedoubleprecision floating point DSP controls thedigital PID andcurrent loops. All system
configuration is done using software-settable parameters, including control loop gains and system safety
functions.
TheNdriveCP is offeredwithanoptional encoderinterpolationfeature(-MXU), anauxiliary squarewave
encoderinput for dual loopcontrol, dedicated analog anddigital I/O (expandable with the-IO option), and
separate powerconnections formotorandcontrol supply voltages.
1.2.1. System Power Requirements
Thefollowing equations canbeusedtodeterminetotal system powerrequirements. Theactual power
required from the mains supply will bethecombinationof actual motorpower(work), motorresistance
losses, andefficiency losses in the powerelectronics orpowertransformer. AnEfficiencyFactorof
approximately 90% shouldbeusedinthefollowingequations
1.2.2. Power Dissipation
Theamplifier powerdissipation undercontinuous powersupply andoutput current conditions is shownin
Figure 1-3. Thevalues onthegraphrepresent thepeak current that theamplifierwouldprovideduring
operation. Whenthebus voltageandoutput current areknown, theamplifierpowerdissipationis foundusing
this graph. Figure 1-4 shows themaximum recommendedambient temperatureas afunctionof amplifier
powerdissipation. Usethis graphalongwiththepowerdissipationobtainedfrom thefirst graphtodetermine
the maximumambient temperature. If theresult is lowerthantheknownoperatingambient temperature,
additional measures arerequired to cool theNdriveCP. Mountingit toalargemetal plateforextraheat
sinking andproviding additional fan flow are suggested.
1.3. Mechanical Design
Install the unit into a construction compliant for unlimited circuits enclosure. Each unit should be separated
from otherdrives andsurroundedby 25mm (1")of freeairspace. A spaceof 100mm(4")shouldbeallowed
along thefront of the unit for cable connections
Chapter 2: Installation and Configuration
2.1. Communication Channel Settings
UsetheDeviceNumberswitches toassignacommunicationchannel numbertotheNdriveCP. If youare
using multiple drives, each drive must beassignedauniquecommunicationchannel. Multipledrives are
typically configured using sequential communication channels.
2.2. Power Connections
TheNdriveCP has twoAC input connectors; oneforcontrol powerandasecondformotorpower. Fora
completelist of electrical specifications, refer to Section 1.2.
