Watlow Anafaze CIM300 is a legacy Communication Interface Module (CIM) designed for the modular MLS300 series. 

It provides the critical bridge between the system's internal PID processing logic and external industrial monitoring networks.

1. Introduction

The CIM300 is an early-generation communication module that enables the Watlow MLS300 system to communicate with external devices via EIA-232 or EIA-485 serial protocols.

 It allows a central computer, PLC, or SCADA system to read process data, change setpoints, and monitor alarms for up to 32 independent loops.

 While it has been replaced by more modern CIM versions (like the CIM316) and eventually the EZ-ZONE series, it remains a common component in legacy semiconductor and plastics machinery.

6. Installation and Maintenance

Installation

Mechanical Connection: The CIM300 must be plugged into the side of the MLS300 stack. Ensure the ribbon cable pins are not bent during insertion.

Jumper Settings: Internal jumpers (or DIP switches, depending on revision) must be set to define whether the unit uses 2-wire or 4-wire RS-485 communication.

Address Assignment: Set a unique Modbus address (1-247) via the MLS300-PM keypad to ensure the CIM300 responds correctly on the network.

Maintenance

Pin Inspection: Over time, the high-density ribbon cables can become brittle or oxidized. Clean connections with a specialized electronic cleaner if "Comm Timeout" errors occur.

Grounding: Ensure the shield of the communication cable is grounded at only one end (typically the master/PC end) to prevent noise from masking data signals.

Diagnostic LEDs: Watch for the "Active" and "Comm" LEDs; if the "Comm" LED never blinks, check for a baud rate or parity mismatch between the CIM300 and the PLC.
