Advant Controller 400 Series: Configuration and Operation Course

This document outlines two key training courses offered by ABB University: "Advant Controller 400 Configuration and Operation" (Course A331) and "System 800xA for Advant Master Configuration" (Course T320). Both courses are designed to equip engineers and technical personnel with the necessary skills to effectively manage and operate ABB's Advant Controller 400 series and integrate it with the System 800xA platform.

Advant Controller 400 Configuration and Operation (Course A331)

Course Goal:The primary goal of this 5-day instructor-led course is to enable participants to configure and operate Advant Controller 400 Series, including local and remote S800 I/O, and to write control programs using the ABB Master Piece language.

Learning Objectives:Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Program Advant Controller 400 using Advant Station 100 Series Engineering Stations (also applicable to Advant 500 Operator Station's on-line builder option).

  • Utilize equipment in normal operation.

Participant Profile:This course is ideal for system, process, application, instrumentation, electrical, and service engineers.

Prerequisites:Participants should possess basic knowledge of logic diagrams, process control principles, and MS Windows.


Key Topics Covered:The course delves into various aspects of the Advant Controller 400, including:

  • Advant OCS philosophy and products.

  • Block selection (PC-elements) and AMPL programming methods.

  • Database definition, dimensioning, and population.

  • On-line Builder software for PC programming, dumping, loading, and parameter adjustment.

  • Introduction to AdvaBuild Function Chart Builder (FCB).

  • PC program structure, on-line documentation, and sequence programs.

  • Training equipment presentation, monitoring and testing of application programs.

  • Backup and transfer of applications, operator station, and DAT communication.

  • Signal flow, hardware, and object control using functional units.

  • Operation of the process controller and PC programs.

  • Data set communication between PC programs and between controllers.

  • Advant Station 100 Engineering Station and database configuration.

  • AC400 series and S800 I/O database configuration.

Course Methodology:The course employs an interactive classroom discussion format with approximately 50% hands-on lab activities, ensuring practical skill development.

System 800xA for Advant Master Configuration (Course T320)

Course Goal:This 5-day instructor-led course focuses on the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the Extended Automation System 800xA specifically for Advant or Master Controllers.

Learning Objectives:Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Plan appropriate architecture for a System 800xA with Advant Master.

  • Install the AC450 Connect software.

  • Navigate the system and create new objects/aspects.

  • Configure and maintain communication between 800xA and Advant controllers.

  • Configure and modify graphic displays, faceplates, and graphic elements.

  • Manage and configure alarms and events.

  • Configure historical data collection and trends.

  • Configure time synchronization.

  • Create and customize a workplace.

  • Configure user accounts and understand access rights.

  • Save and restore data.

Participant Profile:This training is targeted at system and application engineers, commissioning and maintenance personnel, and system integrators.

Prerequisites:Students should have completed the AC 400 configuration course A331 (or AC 400 for AC 100) or possess equivalent knowledge and experience.

  • System 800xA architecture for Advant Master.
